Mining

In many areas of the country historic mine workings pose a potential hazard to redevelopment of the land.

The history of the site may not be immediately apparent but disused mineworkings can be present on both greenfield and brownfield sites and can cause significant delays and additional costs to any development project.

At GIP our engineers can establish a site's historical uses during a Phase I desk study prior to purchase of the site. Where shallow mineworkings are found we can define what levels of stabilisation are required to allow the site to be developed. This will most likely involve drilling and grouting and on-going site supervision.

Most former mineworkings can be stabilised to allow the development of a site to continue and, located as we are at the heart of the Black Country with its rich history of coal mining, GIPs extensive experience and expertise in this field is second to none.
