Saltwells Lane

GIP were commissioned by Persimmon Homes to investigate a 1.77 hectare former industrial site in Netherton prior to the construction of 62 residential properties.

The site was geotechnically complex, with numerous old coal mine entries present, together with shallow coal seams which were known to have been historically worked. In addition, the Thick Coal historically outcropped across the site and had been removed using open cast methods.

The ground investigation delineated an area of deeper Made Ground associated with the open cast mining on the site. In addition, further areas of deeper Made Ground soils were identified and delineated.

These variable ground conditions meant that a uniform foundation solution was not available for the site. GIP were able to produce a zoned foundation solution for the development, which enabled a cost efficient development for our client.
